I agree (as Makoto is my second least favorite character in the series with only Tengan surpassing him) with this but I can disagree with Makoto being a self insert. Sure he felt like a dating sim protagonist at times, but he was too optimistic. But I am surprised you never mentioned his actions in chapter 4 which honestly cement his hate for me.
